The project is a reinterpretation of an “earthquake shack”. One of these small temporary
wood dwellings- fabricated in series to accommodate 1906 earthquake victims
- was transported to its present location and placed over a basement in 1910.
We raised it one and a half stories and converted it into a two unit residential condominium.
The main challenge was to retain some of the original charm of the cottage
while inserting it into a contemporary building assembly.
