Soul Food Cafe

The African Cafe project originated through the initiative of the Site Committee at the Cesar Chavez Student Center in San Francisco State University. Formed by students and professors, the committee felt the need to offer a wide variety of cuisines representative of the American cultural experience. The inclusion of an outdoor social/seating area surrounding a sculptural exhaust vent enclosure was the result of an innovative approach to venting the new kitchen exhaust to the exterior of the building. The project was built while the student center remained open and fully operable. A+D has managed to build consensus and steer the decision making into ensuring that a complex set of requirements translates into a truly exciting gastronomic experience.
